Do these limits really stop people?
Not by themselves. The limits are flags stored in the file, and a PDF program follows them because it chooses to. Many programs ignore them, and tools exist that remove them. They work for honest users and for programs that respect them. If the content is private, set a password to open the file as well.
What is the owner password for?
It is the key to the limits. Without it, a program that respects the limits will not let anyone change them. Choose one that is different from the password to open the file, because anyone who opens the file with its open password could otherwise lift the limits.
Can I change a PDF that already has limits or a password?
Yes. If it needs a password to open, type it in the current password box. The result replaces the old password and limits with the new ones.
What does low resolution printing mean?
The file can be printed, but only at a low quality, so a program that respects the limit will not print a sharp copy. Copying a page by printing it to a PDF is still possible.
Does it change the pages?
No. Text, pictures, fonts, forms, links and bookmarks are copied as they are and then encrypted. A digital signature is lost, because it covers the exact bytes of the file. You get a warning when a file has one.
Is my PDF or password uploaded?
No. The file is changed in your browser, on your device.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. This tool runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is it free?
Yes, you can use it for free. A subscription removes limits and unlocks premium tools.
