How is BMI calculated?
BMI = weight in kilograms ÷ (height in metres)². A person 1.70 m tall weighing 70 kg has a BMI of 70 ÷ 2.89 = 24.2.
Is BMI accurate?
It is a quick screening number, not a diagnosis. It cannot tell muscle from fat, and it does not account for age, sex or where fat is carried. Athletes can have a high BMI and be healthy. Talk to a doctor about your own health.
Can I use it for children?
No. Children and teenagers are assessed with BMI-for-age percentiles, not these adult cut-offs.
Is anything I enter stored?
