Questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The pictures are read out of the file in your browser, on your device. The PDF is not sent to a server.

Do the pictures lose quality?

No. A JPEG picture is copied out of the PDF byte for byte, so it is the file the PDF was made from. Other pictures are stored in the PDF as plain pixels and are written to PNG, which keeps every pixel. Nothing is compressed a second time.

A picture I can see on a page was not saved. Why?

Only pictures stored as pictures can be saved. Charts, logos and drawings in a PDF are often made of lines and shapes. Black and white scans in fax (CCITT) or JBIG2 compression, and pictures in Lab or spot-color spaces, are skipped, and the tool tells you how many. Tiny pictures written inside the drawing commands of a page are not found. To get a page as it looks, use PDF to JPG.

Why does a saved picture look different from the page?

A page can crop, shrink, turn or cover a picture. The saved file is the whole picture as it is stored. CMYK pictures are changed to RGB with a plain formula, so their colors can differ from a color-managed viewer. A JPEG picture that has a see-through mask in the PDF is saved without the mask.

I used the same logo on many pages. Why is it saved once?

A picture used on several pages is stored once in the PDF, so it is saved once. The note under the file lists the other pages that use it.

Can I open a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. Use Remove PDF password first with the password, then extract the pictures from the new file.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. This tool runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is it free?

Yes, you can use it for free. A subscription removes limits and unlocks premium tools.
