Questions

How are the passwords made?

Your browser’s secure random generator picks every character, the same source browsers use to make encryption keys. Every password your settings allow is equally likely, so the strength shown is exact for those settings.

How long should a password be?

For a site that locks you out after a few wrong tries, 12 characters of mixed kinds is plenty. For email, money, or the password that opens your password manager, use 16 or more. Length matters more than symbols.

Is the password stored or sent anywhere?

No. It is made on your device, shown on screen, and gone when you close or reload the page. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is saved.

What do the bits mean?

Each bit doubles the guesses an attacker needs. 60 bits holds against a fast attacker for years, 80 bits for millions of years, and 128 bits for longer than the universe has existed.

Why do some sites reject a symbol?

A few sites only accept certain symbols. Edit the list of symbols to match what the site allows, or switch symbols off and make the password longer instead.

Is my text sent to a server?

No. Everything happens in your browser. Your text is not uploaded or stored.

Is it free?

Yes, you can use it for free. A subscription removes limits and unlocks premium tools.
