Questions
What is EXIF data?
Notes that cameras and phones write into a photo: the camera model, the date and time, the exposure settings and, often, the GPS position where the photo was taken.
Can this show where a photo was taken?
Yes, when the photo has a GPS position. You get the latitude and longitude and a link to a map. Phones write the position when location is on for the camera. Most websites and messaging apps remove it from pictures they send on.
Why does my photo show no data?
Editing programs, messaging apps and websites often remove it, and a screenshot never had any. The report says so when there is none.
Does it read HEIC photos from an iPhone?
It opens them in any browser, but it does not read their camera and location data yet, and it says so. Photos saved as JPG work.
Can I remove this data?
Yes. Use Remove EXIF and location data. It removes it without changing the picture.
Are my pictures uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read in your browser, on your device. It is not sent to a server.
