Questions

Is the ZIP uploaded?

No. It is opened on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere, so it is fine for private files.

Can it open ZIPs with a password?

Yes, if you know the password. It handles both kinds in use: the original ZipCrypto and the AES-256 or AES-128 kind made by 7-Zip and WinZip. It cannot guess a password, and it cannot open the rare “strong encryption” of PKWARE products.

What cannot it open?

ZIPs whose files were packed with a method other than the usual one (Deflate64, bzip2, LZMA and similar) are named in the message, and so are split archives (.z01, .z02 and so on) which must be joined first. RAR and 7z files are a different format.

Is it safe to open a ZIP from someone I do not know?

Opening is safe: nothing is run. Names are made safe (no “..” and no drive letters), links are never followed, and the real size of every file is checked against what the ZIP claims, which stops “zip bombs”. What you do with the files afterwards is up to you: open documents and programs from strangers with care.

Why does it stop on big ZIPs?

A single run unpacks up to 20,000 files and 4.00 GB. Beyond that, a desktop program such as 7-Zip is the better tool.

How do I get the folder structure back?

Each file is listed with its folder path. “Save to a folder…” (Chrome and Edge) writes them into a folder you pick with all the folders in place. “Download all” gives one ZIP with the same layout. Single downloads cannot carry folders, so their folder names become part of the file name.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. This tool runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is it free?

Yes, you can use it for free. A subscription removes limits and unlocks premium tools.
