Questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. The ZIP is built in your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, which is also why there is no size limit set by us.
Are folders kept?
Yes. When you drop a folder or choose one with “a folder”, every file keeps its place inside it. Turn off “Keep the folder structure” to put all the files at the top level instead; files with the same name then get a number.
Why are some files not made smaller?
Pictures, music, video, PDFs and Office documents are already compressed, so packing them again saves nothing and takes time. They are stored as they are. Text, code, spreadsheets and uncompressed images shrink well.
Are empty folders included?
No. A web page is only told about files, so an empty folder cannot be seen and is left out.
Can I put a password on it?
Use Password-protect ZIP, which makes the same ZIP with AES-256 encryption.
How big can the ZIP be?
ZIPs larger than 4 GB are written in the ZIP64 form, which current programs open. The practical limit is your device: the result is built in memory and disk space the browser manages. For very large sets choose “Store only”, which copies the files without compressing them and is much faster.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. This tool runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is it free?
Yes, you can use it for free. A subscription removes limits and unlocks premium tools.
