Questions

What does it remove?

The camera and phone model, the date and time, the GPS position, the thumbnail, the software name, captions and keywords, editing history and text comments. These are stored as EXIF, XMP and IPTC data.

Does it change the picture?

Not for JPG, PNG and WebP. The picture itself is copied byte for byte, so nothing is compressed again and nothing is lost. The file only gets smaller by the size of the data that was taken out.

Why does it keep two things?

The color profile and the turn note are not private, and without them some photos look dull or sideways. You can untick both. Everything else is removed whatever you choose.

What about HEIC, AVIF and TIFF?

These cannot be cleaned in place, so they are opened and saved again as JPG (or PNG if they have see-through parts). The new file has no metadata. Your browser has to be able to open them: Safari opens HEIC and TIFF, other browsers do not.

How can I check the result?

Drop the clean file into the EXIF viewer. It lists what is left.

Are my pictures uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read in your browser, on your device. It is not sent to a server.
