Compare two spreadsheets
Find the cells, rows and columns that differ between two CSV or Excel files
How to use it
- Add the two files, the first one first. They can be CSV, Excel, or one of each.
- Name a key column such as an ID so rows are matched even when they move. Leave it empty to compare row by row.
- Press Compare and download the report.
Questions
What does the report contain?
A Summary sheet with the counts, a list of every changed cell (the row in each file, the column, and the old and new value), and the rows that are only in the first or only in the second file. Lists with nothing in them are left out.
What is a key column?
A column that identifies a row, such as an ID or an email address. With a key, a row is found in the other file wherever it is, so inserting or sorting rows does not show up as changes. Without one, rows are compared by position.
What if two rows have the same key?
They are matched in order: the first with the first, the second with the second. The page tells you when this happens.
Which columns are compared?
The columns with the same name in both files, whatever their order. A column that only one file has is listed in the summary and is not compared.
Are dates and numbers compared as values?
Numbers are, when the option is on (1 and 1.00 match). Dates are compared as the text they show in ISO form, so 2024-03-31 in one file and 31/03/2024 in the other count as different.
Does it look at formatting or formulas?
No. It compares values: the result of a formula, not the formula, and not colors or fonts.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The work happens in your browser, on your device. Your files are not sent to a server.
Is it free?
Yes, you can use it for free. A subscription removes limits and unlocks premium tools.
