Questions
Does the CSV keep the formatting?
No. A CSV file holds only values. You get what is stored in each cell: text as text, numbers as numbers (a percent such as 12.5% comes out as 0.125), dates in ISO form (2024-03-31) and true/false in lower case. Fonts, colors, merged cells, charts and pictures are left behind.
What happens to formulas?
The result Excel last calculated is written. If a file was saved without being calculated (some programs that write Excel files do this), those cells come out empty and the page says so. Open the file in Excel, save it, and convert it again.
How do I open the CSV in Excel with accents intact?
Tick Add a byte order mark. Excel on Windows needs it to read UTF-8 correctly. Other programs do not need it.
Can it open .xls files or files with a password?
No. Old .xls files and password-protected files cannot be read in the browser. Open them in Excel, save as .xlsx without a password, and try again.
How are several sheets handled?
Each sheet becomes its own CSV file, named after the workbook and the sheet. With more than one file, the results can be downloaded together as a ZIP.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The work happens in your browser, on your device. Your files are not sent to a server.
Is it free?
Yes, you can use it for free. A subscription removes limits and unlocks premium tools.
